Uganda Trail: Murchison Falls NP, Kibale NP, Rwenzori Mountains, Queen Elizabeth NP, Lake Mburo NP - 11 days

Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park is the largest of Uganda’s national parks covering a total area of 5,308 kms with a pleasant wildness area of rolling grasslands and wooded savannah, Murchison fall national park is one of the most spectaculars park in Africa. Renowned for its scenic beauty and off course its spectacular falls from which it gets its name Murchison falls national park has the abundant flora and fauna to delight the visitors. The amazing of this park never ceases to amaze visitors and resident a like, no visit to Murchison fall national park is complete without a visit to the top of the falls where its narrows from 50 meters to crash through a 7 meters gorge falling 45meters to the rocks below, other residents in this park are lions, the Uganda kobs and other antelopes as well as elephants, buffalo's, giraffes, hippos, baboons, leopards, and over 650 different species of bird have been recorded here making it a prime target for birdwatchers. Species recorded include the shoebill stork

Kibale National Park

With lush tropical rainforest and fascinating diversity of animals, kibale national park (KNP) is one of the most beautiful and stunning forests in Uganda. Kibale forest is certainly worth protecting as it is home to the largest number of our closest living relatives, the ENDANGERED Chimpanzees, as well as the THREATENED red colobus monkey and the rare I'Hoesti monkey (ref. CITES). The forest has one of the highest diversity and density of primates in Africa totaling to 13 species including the black and white colobus, blue monkey and gray-cheeked mangabey, red tailed monkey, bush babies and pottos. The park also host over 325 species of birds including the yellow spotted nectar, yellow rumped tinker bird.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park

Rwenzori is the highest mountain range in Africa. Its loftiest peaks, Margherita (5,109m) and Alexandra (5083m) on Mount Stanley, are exceeded in altitude elsewhere in Africa only by Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya, both of which are extinct volcanoes standing in isolation above the surrounding plains.
The Rwenzori Mountains are unique among East Africa's major peaks in that they are not Volcanic in Origin, but they do rise directly from the Rift valley floor and their formation, like that of Kilimanjaro and Kenya, was linked to the geological glacial peaks in the Rwenzori's: Mt Speke (4,890M), Mount Emin (4,727m), Mount Gessi (4,715m) and Mount Luigi da Savoia (4,627m).The Rwenzoris are Known primarily for their challenging hiking and climbing possibilities but the range also supports a diversity of animals including mammal and 177 bird species ,several of the latter being Albertine Rift Endemics.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Is one of the outstanding treasures of Uganda, QNP has recently been designated a Biosphere Reserve for Humanity under UNESCO. The park covers 2000 sq. kms, and includes a remarkable variety of Eco-systems, from semi deciduous tropical forest to green meadows, Savannah and swamps. It is the home of the famous tree- climbing lions, the Uganda kobs and other antelopes as well as elephants, buffalo's, hippos, baboons, leopards, and chimpanzee. Over 500 species of bird have been recorded here making it a prime target for birdwatchers. Species recorded include the shoebill stork, black bee-eater, 11 types of king fishers and variety of raptors includes several falcons and eagles. In the crater lakes, spectacular flocks of flamingos gather creating the image of a moving pink carpet. The launch trip along the Kazinga channel between the Lake George and Edward is a memorable way to view the abundant game in Queen Elizabeth national park. North of the main gate is the crater area, one of the most scenic parts of the park. To the Eastern Kyambura Wild Life Reserve visitors can climb through tropical forest and catch a glimpse of a variety of primates including white colobus monkeys and Red –tailed monkeys, olive baboons and other primates as well as plenty of forest birds. A guided nature walk takes visitors into the gorge and offers a great chance to track habituated chimps in their natural habitat. Distance from Kampala: 440 kilometers. Lake Mburo National Park

Its (260 sq.kms) lies along Mbarara Road with easy access of Kampala. It’s an attractive park of rolling hills and open grass valleys, intersperse within thickets woodlands and rich wetland.Find herds of Zebras, Cape buffalos and Elands, Oribi and Topi, Impalas are easily approached. Along with the game drive, many visitors enjoy the boat trip on Lake Mburo. Self-guided nature walks are also available. Birdwatchers will enjoy the more than 250 species of birds found in Lake Mburo including papyrus Gonolek, Brown faced lapwing. Carruthers Cisticola, the extraordinary white winged warbler and Bare-Faced-Go-Away bird. Distance from Kampala: 230 km. Estimated Transit Time: 3-4 hrs

Day by day itinerary

day 1

Kampala - Murchison Falls NP

Meet and great at 0800 hours. An early morning start from Kampala begins the panoramic drive Northwest through the famous Luwero Triangle and Masindi Town to Murchison Falls National Park. Proceed to the top of the falls where you can see the Nile perfected! Marvel at the Nile, compressing from 50 meters to squeeze through a 7 meters canyon dropping 40 meters with a thunderous roar creating a beautiful Rainbow, Plume of spray “the Murchison Falls” Enjoy the sunset as you drive back to Red Chill Rest camp diner and overnight.

day 2

Murchison Falls NP

Early morning game drive, the resident in this park are, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, the unusual shoebill stork and many more. After lunch prepare to proceed for a launch tripe/ boat tripe the placid Victoria Nile up stream to the base of the falls, the boat stops just Ten meters from the “Devil cauldron” take pictures of the majestic Murchison falls, its the photographers paradise and pleasure, enjoy your hike along the Nile up to the top of the falls, you will be picked up on the top. Return to Red Chilli Rest Camp for Dinner and over night.

day 3

From Murchison to Kibale NP

Early morning breakfasts depart from Murchison Falls N.P, through the villages and towns of Kagadi and Hoima with Lunch en route. Proceed to Kibale N.P, this mature hardwood forest harbours 11 species of primates and a vast variety of birds and butterflies. Dinner and over night at the chimpanzees guest house

day 4

Chimpanzee Tracking

Early morning visit to Kibale forest for chimpanzee trekking. The forest also houses other primates like grey-cheeked mangabeys, baboons and velvet monkeys. Relax in the evening dinner and over night at the Chimpanzee guest house

day 5

To Rwenzori Mountains

After breakfast departs from Kibale having a stop over in Fort portal en route to Rwenzori National Park, arrival in time for a traditional dance by the local communities, dinner and overnight at Ruboni Camp.

day 6

Rwenzori Mountains

After your break fast take the forest walk exploring the funa and flora in the tropical forest along the boundary of Rwenzori Mountain National Park. Its just like being in the park, the forest shares all kinds of season you may view the snow caped peaks and glaciers on the Rwenzori during the walk. Return for you lunch break after your lunch break departure for the village walk across section of the community from the traditional making handcrafts, local house hold chores, and the tradition back smith, the story teller and local women making crafts, and the traditional African architecture on the hillside over looking the Mubuku Glacier valley. Diner and over night at Ruboni Camp.

day 7

To Queen Elizabeth NP

Depart frm Rwenzori National Park and proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park with its diverse eco-systems of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers and swamps, lakes and volcanic craters is home to incredible abundance of wildlife. Lions, leopards, elephants, cape buffalos, forest hogs, Uganda kobs, giant forest hogs, bush backs, water backs, with this vast arrays of Uganda wildlife. Dinner and overnight the Mweya wild life hostel.

day 8

Queen Elizabeth NP

Start your day with the excitement of an early morning game drive. Then visit the volcanic crater area of Queen Elizabeth NP with its many salt lakes and extinct craters. In the afternoon enjoy the boat trip along the Kazinga Channel, birds and lots of wild life comes along the channel to drink water. Dinner and overnight at the Mweya wild life Hostel.

day 9

To Lake Mbura NP

After lunch depart from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Lake Mburo National Park with a lunch stop over in Mbarara. Arrival in the park in time for the evening boat trip along Lake Mburo. Dinner and overnight at Lake Mburo Bandas

day 10

Walking Lake Mburo NP, return to Kampala

After your breaks for proceed for walking safari under the escort of an armed ranger. The kopjes are particularly interesting and camouflage klipspringer and topis. Due to cattle herding in the area it’s amusing to see zebras grazing alongside the long horned Ankole cattle peaceably. After you lunch prepare to leave for your boat trip, and there after proceed to Kampala arriving in time for dinner and over night.

day 11

Transfer to Entebbe Airport

Transfer to the airport and that will be the end of our tour.
