  • Bamboo Bikes: Cyclists’ is it the future of cycling?
  • To most developed and western cultures it might sound bizarre, to be able to ride a bamboo bike! However, it has now become a real possibility thanks to some innovative minds in Ghana, Africa, this thanks to the Bamboo Bike Project. www.bamboobike.org
  • Bamboo – It might sound like a material destined for the scrapheap of history, yet this rigid, durable fast-growing grass bamboo measures up well against carbon fibre and alloy bike frames. It’s also plentiful in supply and sustainable in places like Ghana, where traditionally rigid metal bike frames currently dominate on the roads. Bamboo can be bound together with resin or natural fibres, matching the natural bamboo with accessories and components imported from overseas the project can produce a durable light weight option for cycling enthusiasts for leisure activities.
  • The Bamboo Bike Project is a joint venture between American environmental experts and Ghanaian manufacturers, production of bamboo bikes has commenced at Kumasi close to Ghana’s Bamboo Forest. This activity serves to aid and grow local business, provides incomes for local families/communities and helps to protect the environment. For further information visit;
